davis school districtThis week we are spotlighting the fantastic Davis School District. The Davis School District was created in 1911, with its first official high school, Davis High, opening in 1914.

Davis School District is the only district in Utah that is K-12 accredited and boasts a 95% graduation rate with Layton High leading the way at 97%! In addition to having their own Headstart program, they help adults get their GEDs, and have a program at Farmington Bay for incarcerated teens. If you have a new kindergartener you will be happy to know that they are ranked 7% higher than the national average for K-3 reading progress! Davis School District is also ranks #41 in our state for the Best Places to Work!

Davis Education Foundation, their non-profit organization, has raised over $3 million dollars for classroom and innovative grants.

With their motto being “Learning First”, they focus on parent and community connections, student growth and achievement, empowering employees, creating safe and secure learning environments, and fiscal responsibility.

I sat down with Chris Williams this week to talk with him about what he loves about his job and the school district. His favorite thing to do is to go to any school and be in the “center of awesomeness”. Some days he can’t believe he gets paid to see the amazing things our schools are doing each day! He also loves to eat at the schools, especially peanut butter bars at the Davis School District Nutrition Services in the Freeport Center. If he isn’t eating at one of the great district schools, he loves getting  fish and chips at Little Taste of Britain in Layton.

We also talked about some amazing things happening in our schools! Check out our video:

When asked what he loves about the Davis Chamber of Commerce, Chris said he learns something at every meeting he attends. He always feels his time is well spent and loves hearing different perspectives and information from others in fields unrelated to education. We are so privileged to have Chris Williams and the Davis School District as members of the Chamber!
