Our featured member this week is Russon Brothers Mortuary, which was started in 1954 by three brothers who grew up watching their uncle operate a local mortuary in Lehi. They loved seeing the big black cars and dreamed one day of owning a mortuary.
Each of the brothers began to fulfill their dream by attending the California College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles. The Russon brothers served in the armed services during WWII, married, started families, and ended up working together in a Salt Lake City Mortuary. In those days the dream of owning a mortuary seemed remote.
But in the summer of 1954, their mother, Clara Russon, saw an ad in the local newspaper advertising the sale of a mortuary in Salt Lake City. The brothers responded, financial arrangements were made, and Russon Brothers Mortuary began business in November 1954.
The first years had their ups and downs but the business grew and prospered. In the summer of 1972, the brothers were approached by the owners of the Bountiful Union Mortuary to see if they were interested in purchasing the business. The brothers seized the opportunity and the purchase was finalized in the fall of that year.
Today a third generation of Russons are involved in the business and they now have three locations in Davis County, their newest just opening last week in Syracuse.

Tyler Russon is one of the owners of the Russon Brothers Mortuary and is part of the third generation of Russons to run their family-owned business. We asked Tyler what he loved about the Davis Chamber of Commerce and even though he has only been a member for a couple of weeks, he had some great things to say. He said, “I signed up for the Chamber and gave them such short notice to come to our ribbon cutting the next day and I was AMAZED at the turnout and I just felt like part of the group immediately. The networking that happened that day was great! It was a great experience. I am super excited to be a new member!”
We were able to tour the newest Russon Brothers Mortuary in Syracuse and it is really beautiful. When you walk in there is a feeling of calm throughout the building. If you have a chance, visit one of their elegant buildings and see the pride and care they take in each one.
We are thrilled to welcome Tyler and the rest of the Russon Brothers Mortuary family and staff to the Chamber! If you’d like more information about what they offer and their locations, visit https://www.russonmortuary.com/.
