Davis Chamber Women in Business Honors Sandi Hendry with 2020 ATHENA Award Recipient

The Davis Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Committee announced today that the recipient of their 2020 ATHENA Award is Sandi Hendry, owner of Minky Couture designer blankets. The award will be presented at their annual Athena Luncheon to be held on February 20th, 2020 at 11:30 am at Warehouse 22 in Syracuse.

The prestigious ATHENA International Award is given to individuals who meet the following criteria: 

Demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative in their business or profession. 
Provide valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community. 
Actively assist women in realizing their full leadership potential.

Sandi was born in 1955 and grew up in Orem where her parents owned the local newspaper. She loved the business world from an early age and dreamed of creating a business that made a difference in the world. In 1977, Sandi graduated from BYU with a degree in Elementary Education and went on to teach 5th and 6th grade for 30 years.

A personal hardship in 2009 changed Sandi’s life and set her on a path to starting her own designer blanket company, Minky Couture. The challenge of taking an everyday product from ordinary to spectacular had many roadblocks. Utilizing local seamstresses to create customized blankets, from exclusive, luxury minky fabrics, set Minky Couture apart from competitors.

Sandi believes in surrounding herself with loyal, honest, creative and dedicated employees to accomplish her mission to “Blanket the World in Minky Couture” luxury. She says that this along with giving back to the community is the key to Minky’s success.

Sandi is married and enjoys spending time with her children and her many grandchildren. She is described as determined, creative, passionate, courageous, with a heart of gold.
